EGYPT: TARGOR POLYMER TECHNOLOGY TO MAS CO
Article Abstract:
The Egyptian company MAS Co is to build a 150,000-tpy homopolymer plant in Suez by year 2002. In the second phase the plant will be expanded to 225,000 tpy, which will allow also the production of impact copolymers. The propylene will be produced in a propane dehydration facility at the site. MAS Co has acquired a licence from Targor GmbH for the Novolen gas phase technology for the production of polypropylene. The Star process of Krupp-Uhde will be used in the propane dehydration plant. The latter company won the contract for the construction of the complex on a turn-key basis.

TAIWAN: ZIMMER IN CHANG CHUN PLASTICS PROJECT

Chang Chun Plastics Co. Ltd has placed a DM 15mn contract with Zimmer AG of Germany for the supply of a polyester polycondensation plant for the production of polybuteneterephthalate. The plant in Kaoushiung, Taiwan, will have an annual capacity of 200 tonnes. Start-up is scheduled for the beginning of 2002.

BELGIUM: SOLVAY TO CONVERT CHLORINE PLANT

Krupp Uhde GmbH has won the contract to convert the chlorine production plant of Solvay S.A. in Jemeppe from mercury to membrane technology, using Krupp Uhde's single-element technology. The Belgian plant has an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes. The project is to be completed by mid-2001.
