Latest eruptions in metabotropic glutamate receptors
Article Abstract:
The study of metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors has gained momentum as an area of excitatory amino acid research. Research into their function has shown several physiological roles ranging from synaptic plasticity to neuroprotection. The 2nd International Meeting on Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors was held in Taormina, Sicily, on Sep. 15-20, 1996. The conference focused on advances in the pharmacology, molecular biology and physiological functions of mGlu receptors in the central nervous system.

The structure and signalling properties of 5-HT receptors: an endless diversity?
Article Abstract:
The main subject for discussion in the symposium, 'Advances in Serotonin Receptor Research,' is the structure and signalling attributes of 5-HT receptors. The event's keynote speakers that include Rodrigo Andrade, Larry Tecott, Luc Maroteaux, Rene Hen and Hung-Ming Chu discussed topics such as the structural appreciation of the 5-HT receptors, receptor-effector signalling and emerging therapeutics applications.

Purines '96
Article Abstract:
Purinoceptor expert Geoffrey Burnstock gave a keynote lecture at Purines '96 on the evolution and development of purinoceptor functions. International Union of Pharmacology Purinoceptor Subcommittee members also led a discussion on receptor nomenclature. There were also recommendations concerning minor changes in adenosine receptor nomenclature and major changes in nucleotide receptor nomenclature.
