A peaceful, silent, deadly remedy: the ethics of economic sanctions
Article Abstract:
Ethical issues and justifications for economic sanctions are discussed in relation to just war doctrine, Kantian ethics, and utilitarianism. Topics include the principle of discrimination in just war doctrine, a Kantian interpretation of the suffering of innocents as a means of persuasion, utilitarian justifications based on political efficacy, and alternative goals of economic sanctions.
