At the gates of Europe
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the results of the recent election in Turkey which saw the moderate Islamic AK party (Justice and Development) led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan take power, sweeping away the political class that had ruled the country for almost two decades, and Turkey's entry into an expanded European Union. It is argued that marginalising Turkey by excluding it from European integration and enlargement would be to play into the hands of the country's Islamic radicals, however, it is equally important that the new Turkish government demonstrate that democratic ideals and Islam can be effectively reconciled if Turkey is to have a place in the European Union.

The truth and fiction about (Turkey's) human rights politics
Article Abstract:
The issue of Human rights is not popular in Turkey. To bring human rights into Turkish political discourse they must be put in the context of politics and history. Any government working to bring human rights norms into Turkey must not feel it is doing so at its own cost.
