Article Abstract:
Booker T. Washington became famous because of his view that the responsibility for the advancement of African-Americans rested on both blacks and whites. He emphasized the importance of economic before political needs. This idea was criticized by other Negroes primarily W.E.B. DuBois who believed in changing the status quo. Washington's plan of industrial training for blacks is still relevant in today's information-oriented society and should be considered in any politacal agenda geared towards the development of the African-American race.

Who won the great debate-Booker T. Washington or W.E.B. DuBois?
Article Abstract:
Booker T. Washington espoused that black advancement is possible without upsetting the social order. He said that the industrial education of blacks is the key to economic development. W.E.B. DuBois challenged this view when he pushed for full civil, political and social rights. People contented with how the nation is run politically and economically must turn to Washington while those who challenge the captainship of the nation must turn to DuBois.
