Central American democratization and the international economy
Article Abstract:
Economic progress in Central America remains elusive due to undemocratic conditions, and unequal economic opportunity. Although the US agency, The Agency for International Development, plans to implement a program for sustainable development in the region, its goals are confused with the interests of international financial institutions. The World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund favor a policy of structural adjustment, which is detrimental to the interests of the poor and the working class. Such a policy often favors capitalism, and causes unequal distribution of wealth.
