Comparing profitability in the public utilities, defence and pharmaceuticals
Article Abstract:
Thr governments of most countries plans to adapt UK's system of utility regulation model to make their utilities more efficient. Privatization in British experience revealed that monopoly of power is widespread among the privatized utilities even at the expense of the consumers. Three of the four utilities, which were involved in the case study earned rates that were higher when compared to those in the corporate sector. No excessive profitability was seen in both defence and pharmaceuticals although there was a 25% increase in the manufacturing.

Social conflict and the effectiveness of aggregate demand management policies
Article Abstract:
A study that examines the role of social conflict in explaining macroeconomic phenomena and, especially, the effectiveness of aggregate demand policies as a means of raising real output is illustrated. Empirical analysis during the period from the 1950s to the 1990s for fifteen OECD countries provides significant evidence that the social conflict view of inflation has much to offer in explaining differences in the effectiveness of aggregate demand policies both across countries and through time.
