Danger zone
Article Abstract:
Ethiopia and Somalia are poised on the edge of a war after the United Nations (UN) Security Council authorized a regional peace support mission to Somalia in December 2006. The move was interpreted by the newly established Islamist authorities in Mogadishu as a cue for U.S.-backed Ethiopian intervention in support of the struggling Transitional Federal Government, and within days the Islamists declared jihad on Ethiopia, demanding the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Somalia.

Courts in charge
Article Abstract:
A government emerging from homegrown institution and grounded in political island could be a significant step for Somalia, a country, wherein Islamic forces have just wrested control of Mogadishu from the warlords, that needs to move on from its state of collapse. It remains to be seen if the new authorities in Somalia can reach out to other groups and form the hub of a more legitimate, political dispensation.
