Democracy's forgotten dimension
Article Abstract:
Western democracy evokes mistrust in many parts of the world because it fails to address humanity in a genuine manner. A renewed respect for the transendental roots of democracy must evolve that includes the nonmaterial order of nature, humanity and secularism. The degeneration of cultural and moral norms and the growing cult of materialism can only be stopped by a spiritual revival that engages people to work toward common interests and general good.

East Timor: elections in the world's newest nation
Article Abstract:
East Timor is a tiny country of a population less than a million people, which emerged from a tragic and bloody past to gain full independence in 2002, offers a fascinating case of democratization in a small developing country with a shallow history of democracy. East Timor depends on Australia for security, and on the goodwill of the international community for development assistance.
