China is likely to be mired in a civil war when Communist Party leader Deng Xiaoping passes away. The prevailing discontent among the citizens are just being overlooked because the focus of the international community has always been on the country's economic growth since Deng rose to power.

Expect 'reversal of verdict' on Tian An Men after Deng dies
Article Abstract:
It is unlikely that China will push ahead with democracy when Communist Party leader Deng Xiaoping passes away. Although economic reforms are being implemented, a political or ideological shift may not be in the offing. A civil war is also unlikely to erupt in China when Deng dies.

The world community must continue to monitor the human rights record of China. The people of China strive for the same freedoms as the rest of the world, so the Chinese government should be judged the same as other governments.
