Europe at fifty: Supersize me
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) is preparing to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the 1957 Treaty of Rome, but the debate about future integration is increasingly focused on the EU's ability to cope with new members and whether enlargement has reached saturation point. However, the challenges of the 21st century demand that Europe continue its integration process, thus sending the message to the global community that it is a dynamic, successful entity that will respond to rising Asian power with its own expansion so size and scale.

U.S.-EU relations as Europe turns fifty: Getting together again
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) in 2007 exemplifies the regenerative powers of opening protected national markets and of the political benefits to states of handing over aspects of sovereign control to new supranational institutions. The EU's future, as it begins the second-half century of its integration process, is also of interest to America, which hopes that a strong and dynamic Europe will be a willing and effective partner at the global level.
