"Even our caution must be hedged."(Will China Democratize?)
Article Abstract:
China will eventually adopt the democratic way of governance characterized by the basic freedoms including popular elections. Authoritarianism cannot stand the changes that affect world politics. It is not sure, however, how such democratization and liberalization will emerge. Two scenarios come into play, namely, the occurrence of violent change through a revolution and the installation of a bureaucratic-elitist democratic setup if present authorities do not push people to the brink through human rights violations.

China's constitutionalist option
Article Abstract:
Many scholars doubt the possibility of a trend towards constitutionalism in China as that country prepares for the 21st century. However, in the face of the improbability of the alternatives to constitutionalism, the assertion that China will soon move towards constitutionalism becomes more credible. The fact that the government has openly conducted discussions on the subject also bolsters the belief that constitutionalism will hold sway over the country in the future.
