First for ability
Article Abstract:
Women have attained positions of power in the BBC, the Law Society, the British Council, the House of Lords, the Bank of England, the Labor Party, and the Royal Institute of International Affairs since 1987. These developments in Britain are representative of women's progress all over Europe, such as in Scandinavia where women occupy almost half the parliamentary seats. The important goal for women is to be successful rather than to be hailed as the first to do something.

Prestige Purchase
Article Abstract:
Britain is planning to buy its most expensive weapons system ever without much debate or a vote in parliament by replacing Trident nuclear submarine with a similar deluxe version, again based on submarines in 2006. While the costs are not known, figures between $35 and $70 million are quoted which is not an insignificant sum when compared to the $2 million just agreed by the government to refurbish two London hospitals.
