Flying saucers are real! The US Navy, unidentified flying objects and the national security state

Article Abstract:

Differences between the visions of the US Air Force and the Navy provided the reason for rivalry, making naval flying saucer advocates oppose Air Force Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) policies. The Naval figures who advocated that flying saucers represented either visits to Earth by extraterrestrial spacecraft or sophisticated new Naval technologies brought science fiction into everyday life for the US public but undermined the public faith in the ability of the Air Force to identify potential threats to the United States.
