Getting to Arab democracy: Lebanon springs forward
Article Abstract:
The voters of Lebanon turned out for four consecutive Sundays beginning 29th May 2005 for choosing a new parliament in elections that capped an extraordinary passage in the history of their country as well as that of the broader Middle East. One of the world's most hard-bitten dictatorships found itself overmatched by, among other forces, crowds of Lebanese citizens armed with nothing more dangerous than wry slogans and red-and-white placards bearing their country's green cedar-tree emblem.

The challenge for democracy

The various constraints that are involved in democracy of the European Union, making its work more challenging and difficult are discussed. Efforts are made to reduce the democratic deficit of organization and to tackle a new problem for democracy.
