Global capitalism and labor: an exchange
Article Abstract:
Robert J.S. Ross argues that global expansion of capitalism will result in the gradual empowerment of the wage-earners, who will then relegate capitalism to the background. However, Michael Barratt Brown considers Ross's conclusion as farfetched. Global capitalism contains inherent defects that will create crisis in the society, especially in the Third World. The power of the nation state to protect the wage-earners will weaken resulting in unrests and uprisings that will destroy both the economic and political system. Ross's agrees with Brown's view, though with certain conditions.

The transformation to the market: at high cost, often with long lags, and not without question marks
Article Abstract:
Transition to a capitalist economy imposes a requisite transition into a capitalistic mindset among people who had been used to a socialized system where they thrived simply by conforming to the technical rules of survival. It is imperative that the people do away with the Weberian protestant ethic and acquire the liberal leanings associated with economic freedom. The systemic change also mandates the judiciary and public administration to acquaint themselves with market rules.
