Gore-Chermomyrdin commission expands nuclear security cooperation
Article Abstract:
The seventh session of the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission addressed key issues of nuclear materials security and nuclear energy. Four new Russian nuclear facilities were brought under nuclear material protection, control and accounting (MPC&A) arrangements. In addition, MPC&A focused on the safety of nuclear materials during transportation and the denuclearization of weapons. Alternative power options, such as core conversions were considered for Russia's dual-purpose plutonium reactors. Other issues of nuclear security, such as cooperation under a test ban treaty were also pursued at the meet.

Egypt received Scud missile parts from North Korea, report says
Article Abstract:
Egypt has reportedly received material and equipment from North Korea to build Scud-C ballistic missiles. The missile cooperation between Cairo and Pyongyang is aimed at constructing a long-range ballistic missile system based on Soviet Scud technology. Neither Egypt nor North Korea are signatories to the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). However, identification of the transferred material as MTCR-specified items could see the imposition of US initiated economic sanctions against both states.
