Israel and the Islamic bomb
Article Abstract:
Pakistan's decision to conduct nuclear weapons tests has given rise to the concept of an Islamic bomb, which to the West means the capability of the Islamic world to develop and launch nuclear weapons. However, the Islamic bomb is not and will never be the panacea to the problems of Islamic states, not the least of which are religious fanaticism and economic depression. On the contrary, nuclear testing will only exacerbate the conditions in those countries and serve as an obstacle to the peace process in the Middle East. As a leading figure in the Middle East peace talks, Israel should try to help defuse the tension between India and Pakistan arising from the nuclear tests.

The end of nuclear colonization
Article Abstract:
India maintains that it is in favor of nuclear nonproliferation even as it continues to undertake nuclear testing. The government of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee argues that its nuclear tests are necessary to ensure India's national security and deter any possible aggression by neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan. India also tried to allay the concerns of the international community, insisting that it is only trying to join other nations that already have nuclear programs in place, and that it will exercise restraint in the use of nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons for none or for all
Article Abstract:
The nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan should serve as a bitter reminder for all countries in the world that nuclear nonproliferation will not be realized unless a universal ban is enforced. The two South Asian neighbors cannot be blamed for triggering a crisis when other countries also have nuclear weapons programs in place. The key to nuclear nonproliferation, therefore, is to implement a policy that covers all nations regardless of status. When nobody has a nuclear arsenal to boast of, the possibility of a war is greatly reduced.
