The fourth BWC review conference: an important step forward

The Biological Weapons Convention held its fourth review conference in Geneva, Switzerland from Nov 25 to Dec 6, 1996. The conference was aimed at assessing the operation of the convention with particular emphasis on addressing the international body's lack of effective verification measures regarding international arms non-proliferation efforts. The conference tackled the important issue of the growing threat of biological warfare arising from the fields of biology, particularly molecular biology.
