Legacy of waste or wasted legacy? The end of industrial ecology in post-socialist Hungary
Article Abstract:
Hungary's waste institutions and policies were disassembled following the collapse of state socialism. Exaggerated forecasts of reuse and recycling were found to be counterproductive in both analyzed periods of state socialism.

The discrepancies between the European Union and Hungarian waste practices are because of differences in developmental trajectories and are qualitative. The EU sends mixed messages to Hungary around waste policy issues.
