For individual rights
Article Abstract:
The founders of America placed emphasis on the rights of individuals, and this notion has had an impact on the US economic system and criminal law. Yet the notion of individual rights has been eroded with rights to benefits, such as welfare, replacing freedom from oppression. Rights allow people to have personal sovereignty and space to take decisions. There was no articulation of natural rights from the beginning, and there is a need for a stronger articulation of rights in modern times. Reactionary forces are seeking to undermine rights and this trend should be resisted.

The rebirth of African liberalism
Article Abstract:
Majority of African countries have held certain types of multiparty elections and approximately one-third of these countries have become electoral democracies since 1990 in light of several domestic and external pressures against authoritarian rule. Benin and Madagascar, for instance, demonstrated the peaceful turnover of power from one elected regime to another in 1996. Likewise, the 1996 elections in Ghana and the 1997 elections in Kenya were marked by increasing competitiveness but still remained peaceful and under control.
