Environmental direct action in Manchester, Oxford and North Wales: a protest event analysis
Article Abstract:
The article analyzes protest events by local environmental direct action groups in Manchester, Oxford, and Bangor in North Wales between 1992 and 2001. Evidence suggests most groups worked independently and their protests challenged the basic norms of political and capitalist establishments.

A study that challenges the common belief that national environmental movement organizations (EMOs) tend to marginalize local activists is presented. It argues that several prominent EMOs encourage participation from grassroots campaigners.
