MTCR members agree on new export restrictions
Article Abstract:
Export control guidelines applicable to missiles and related technologies have been expanded under the initiative of Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) members. Previous MTCR regulations limited the spread of nuclear missiles with a 500 kg payload capable of travelling more than 300 km. Henceforth, the MTCR will also limit the transfer of missiles intended for mass destruction including nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Under the new regulations, suppliers may deny the request for arms if they have enough reason to believe that these will be used for mass destruction.

Article Abstract:
Officials from the United Nations Special Commission conducted inspections throughout Iraq on Jan 11-14, 1992 to locate and destroy uranium enrichment centrifuge components and materials used in the country's nuclear weapons program. Information provided by Germany revealed that Iraq had acquired German-manufactured centrifuge equipment for uranium enrichment purposes prior to the Gulf War. Iraq has requested the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is supervising the dismantling of Iraq's nuclear weapons complex, to spare components with civilian applications.

U.N., Iraq reach compromise; avoid renewed warfare
Article Abstract:
Iraq has decided to allow UN inspection teams to enter its Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation building after Pres Bush threatened renewed military action.
