Mafiosi and terrorists: Italian women in violent organizations
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the role of women in violent organizations in Italy, comparing the Sicilian Mafia and the leftist terrorist organization Red Brigades. The author finds that the mafia maintains its patriarchal authoritarian structure, whereas sexual equality and autonomy from traditional authority are found in the leftist organization.
