Article Abstract:
US cities employ a wide variety of techniques in four major areas of human resource management, namely, supportive workplace relations, training, career development and performance appraisal, to address the needs of their older workers. This was gleaned from an examination of strategic management of older workers in US cities. However, cities were found to take minimal action to adapt training to the needs of older workers, to reestablish the careers of mature employees and to apply proficiency testing to supplement performance appraisal.
