Nationalist ideas move from the margins
Article Abstract:
Gennadi Zyuganov is a Communist candidate for Russia's presidency, and he exemplifies how nationalism is reasserting itself among the mainstream. He holds to national-Bolshevism, a communist ideology from the 1960s which harmonizes communism with Russia's Tsarist past. He issued a manifesto proclaiming this doctrine and proposing renationalization for a mixed economy. Despite the vague rhetoric of the manifesto, his stated position is also one of conciliation towards Western business interests and nations.
