Needed: a smaller and very different U.S. military
Article Abstract:
The US military in the post-Cold War era of the 1990s faces the long-term challenge of reorganizing itself to cope with future uncertainties and threats, especially those posed by revolutionary Third World countries. In the short term, the US military is enjoying a relative period of peace. During this lull, however, it has to devise strategies that would redefine its role and goals in relation to the rest of the world. These strategies should be flexible enough to be effective in various future scenarios.

It's foreign and off the agenda
Article Abstract:
Many British citizens view European issues as a primary concern in their considerations of foreign policy. Analysis of public opinion concerning foreign policy news and information found that many people do not take a keen interest in foreign news, but do have strong opinions concerning the European Union, common currency, and the power structure of a European Parliament. Public opinion surveys also note that British citizens are increasingly dissatisfied with government.

Democratisation as foreign policy: the case of Haiti
Article Abstract:
The US occupation of Haiti with the avowed purpose of protecting democracy indicates the international acceptance of that justification for military attack. Specious arguments and a history of vacillation mar the US and UN arguments, but at least the invasion's end result will apparently be to let Haitians once again live in security. The meaning of democratization and its evolution into a limited worldwide campaign are analyzed.
