The Trial Technical Program for the Prevention and Treatment of Contagious Atypical Pneumonia in Rural Areas was formulated to promptly and effectively prevent and control the spreading and extension of contagious atypical pneumonia to the rural areas. Guidelines are outlined on the principles for prevention and control, reporting and monitoring of epidemics, inspection and control of epidemic situations, medical rescue and treatment, routine prevention and protection, and principles for direction by categories.

A circular issued by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health on May 8, 2003, stipulates certain requirements in the epidemic situation of severe acute respiratory syndrome in order to ensure the physical health and safety of examinees and working personnel during the 2003 student admissions at ordinary institutions of higher learning. Well-ventilated examination sites, disinfection of sites of examination, grading and admission, and long-distance admission activities where possible are emphasized.
