U.S. wants strengthened CCW landmines protocol
Article Abstract:
The US has proposed the strengthening of restrictions in the amended landmines protocol to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons on the use of landmines, especially anti-vehicle mines. Existing protocol requirements that mines be detectable and that remotely delivered mines have self-destructing or self-deactivating mechanisms only apply to anti-personnel mines. The US now wants these criteria to apply to anti-vehicle mines too. It also called for a boost to the reliability of the self-destruction and self-deactivation mechanisms on remotely delivered mines.
