Article Abstract:
The predictions of the imminent defeat of Al Qaeda in Iraq after the death of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi are met with deep skepticism. Concerns are raised for the future nature of the conflict between Al Qaeda and the west on the grounds of the religious certainty the suicide bomber exhibited and about the inspiration his death would provide for his followers to achieve their religious-political objectives.

Russia is ranked amongst the worst in the world for media freedom as dozens of journalists were murdered and authorities solved very few cases. A provincial newspaper lost its editor in the shooting spree and the evidence uncovered produced deep disquiet about the future for Russian journalists and for Russia itself.
