Article Abstract:
There was a number of elections that took place in Africa in early 1990s as various countries enter into the transition from authoritarian rule to a democratic form of government. By the middle of the 1990s, a wave of second elections has hit the new democracies that has not been brought down by coup d'etats. There were 23 second elections in 16 countries from 1995 to 1997. An analysis of the quality and the implications of these elections is presented.
