Service delivery satisfaction and willingness to pay taxes: citizen recognition of local government performance
Article Abstract:
A tax-performance classification system is utilized to show any connection between citizens' perception of local government performance and their willingness to pay increased taxes. The study was prompted by questions on whether it is reasonable to expect gains in performance in response to anti-tax public sentiments. Citizens' perceptions on the matter may be used to support arguments for strengthening the link between performance and willingness to pay. A model that aims to unite citizen and professional values, including conscious decisions about the proper balance between dimensions of performance, is provided by the study.

Sex, race, and affirmative action: an uneasy alliance
Article Abstract:
Affirmative action (AA) is inherently a conflictual policy since it seeks to redistribute that which has been exclusive domain of a privileged group. It seeks to redress racial and gender inequality and in so doing, threatens to eradicate what had been considered traditional American values. It also highlights two such values that are in conflict with each other, namely, individuality and egalitarianism. It also underscores the great divide between the races and the sexes, and the great divide between race and sex. For AA to work, the tensions between all these must be diffused.
