Telecom reforms in developing countries and the outlook for electronic commerce
Article Abstract:
The World Trade Organization has established two initiatives that can lead to the lowering of prices of information appliances and telephone services, namely the Information Technology Agreement and the Negotiations on Basic Telecommunication Services under the General Agreement on Trade in Services. A decline in the prices of information appliances can enable companies in developing countries to convert industries from being material-intensive to information-intensive organizations that can be flexible enough to meet the demands of all types of clients.

Various constraints associated imposed by the agreement on the regulations of the Federal Communications Commission were also analyzed. Results indicated that the agreement hinders the discretion of regulatory agencies and public interest through the enunciation of public concerns.
