Age related employment issues in Florida municipal governments: are municipalities preparing for change?
Article Abstract:
The increasing percentage of the elderly in the US workforce is focusing attention on the related problem of age discrimination in employment. However, research shows that this problem is more acute in the private sector than in government. Age discrimination and other issues related to workforce aging are examined in 45 Florida municipalities. The study reveals positive perceptions of older workers in these local government units. In addition, the research emphasizes the need for a comprehensive personnel program targeting older workers to help them reach their full potentials.

Domestic partnership benefits: dispelling the myth
Article Abstract:
Domestic partnership benefits are an increasingly important issue in government service. These refer to leave credits, health insurance, financial aid and other benefits originally offered only to married couples, but are now offered by many firms to 'non-traditional families,' including single-parent households and gay couples. Eligibility for such benefits and other issues related to this policy's implementation are analyzed. The results indicate that social, political and economic trends are making domestic partnership policy an important issue in public and private firms.
