The International Monetary Fund's influence on trade policies of low-income countries: a valid undertaking?
Article Abstract:
The direct and indirect influence of the International Monetary Fund on poor countries' trade policies and tariff systems through the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries initiative (HIPC) and the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) lending scheme is discussed. It is suggested that the IMF is incorrect to influence trade policies of poor countries.
