Can variation in public policies account for differences in comparative advantage?
Article Abstract:
The main claim of the Varieties of Capitalism (VoC) framework that public policies can help to shape comparative advantage and to complement existing assessments that have relied predominantly on qualitative data from a few economic sectors is presented. The distribution of export success in a number of economic sectors is examined, in which competitiveness is characterized by either radical or incremental innovation.

Adaptation and integration through policy re-categorization
Article Abstract:
The impact on the state alcohol monopoly systems in Finland, Norway and Sweden by the interaction with the European Union (EU) is analyzed. The findings state that the relationship between the way public policies that are integrated, categorized and re-categorized provides important insights towards the understanding of the dynamics of public policy.

Partisan politics, party competition and veto players: German economic policy in the Kohl era
Article Abstract:
The economic policy in Germany is explained with a model that uses partisan theory as a starting point and further with the impact of party competition and veto players. Tsebelis' veto player theory is corroborated with some qualifications, the most important of which is that it must also take into account strategic orientations of actors.
