Profile: Greens in the European Parliament
Article Abstract:
Participation of green parties in the European Parliament (EP) dates back to 1979, when the first direct election to the EP was held. The decision to participate in the elections came despite the EU's representation of much of what greens oppose, including technocratic policy-making and distant decision-making institutions. Green parties in the EP are pushing for a community based on grassroots democracy, ecology and nonviolence.
