The great repudiation: the repudiation of "errors of orientation and the political line"
Article Abstract:
This article describes the formal procedures used at the 12th plenary session of the 8th Chinese Communist Party Congress of Oct, 1968, to openly repudiate Liu Shaoqi. Speeches of the previous year, criticizing Liu Shaoqi without naming him, and the reversal of this practice, are analyzed.

This article describes a report on Liu Shaoqi produced for the Eighth Chinese Communist Party in Aug 1966. Mao Zedong's changed opinions of his former comrade, the contradictory nature of the report, and its passage that would permit the execution of Liu Shaoqi are discussed.
