Refugees: a burden for sharing
Article Abstract:
Refugees from Eastern European countries are motivated both by hardship in their homelands and the allure of prosperity and political freedom in their destinations. As Central Europeans migrate westward in search of jobs, they are replaced by refugees from the East, straining welfare resources. Unlike South-to-North migrations, race is not a political factor in the current movements. Ethnic Germans repatriated from the East are free to then move within the Community. The burden sharing that results will be a major topic in refugee policy discussions.

An East Slavic union?
Article Abstract:
Belarus and Ukraine are not likely soon to be absorbed back into a Russian Empire in the form of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Despite such signs as their elections of pro-Russian presidents, they have a period in which to develop both the economic and political forms of independent states, and the psychological orientation of citizens of free nations. If they cannot do that relatively soon, their independence is doomed.
