Blacks speak on the campaign issues
Article Abstract:
Six Afro-American editors and publishers maintain that campaign issues raised during the 1992 US presidential election do not hold political significance for the electorate. The candidates must raise serious issues such as curbing unemployment, providing adequate health care in urban areas, and checking the spread of racial segregation. The issues of controlling federal deficit, devising schemes to stabilize the economy and providing economic and social support to black communities should also be addressed, rather than trivial issues such as the candidates' character.

Civil rights or civil wrongs for women
Article Abstract:
Women still face discrimination and the Civil Rights Act hopes to protect women against it. Politicians tend to use women's rights issues for their own ends but hesitate to confront the matter head on when faced witih specific situations. Problems such as sexual harassment, rape, abortion, employment and domestic violence continue to plague women but laws subject the women to difficulties when they attempt to air their grievances. Meanwhile, black women have to deal with additional problems such as acquiring the proper health care and racism.

Cease-fire in Angola: will peace be lasting?
Article Abstract:
Political analysts fear that the cease-fire declared in Angola on May 31, 1991 after thirty years of civil war may be short-lived. Corruption, bureaucracy and mismanagement are undermining the government's stability. A clash in ideologies between the ruling party Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the National Union for the Total Liberation of Angola (UNITA) threatens the stability of the impending Angolan elections. Meanwhile, leaders Jonas Savimbi and Jose Edwardo dos Santos continue to clash.
