Article Abstract:
Anthropological and sociological, the two basic assumptions presupposed by modern democracy are explained. The major Christian communions largely support democracy, even while necessarily retaining the right to criticize democratic decisions in the name of religious truth claims.

Constitutional design for divided societies
Article Abstract:
A set of recommendations focusing on the constitutional needs of countries with deep ethnic and other cleavages are presented. Experts agree that it is more difficult to establish and maintain a democratic government in divided countries than homogeneous countries.
