The myth of global ethnic conflict
Article Abstract:
Many scholars are convinced that conflict between the world's various ethnic groups is inevitable. This belief is based on the assumption that ancient and unchanging ethnic identities lead to persecution and, eventually, violence. However, closer study reveals the falsity of these assumptions. In reality, the violent attitudes held by ethnic groups toward each other are not caused by inherent depravity but by the political choices made by a state's leaders. It is, therefore, imperative on the part of leaders to ensure that ethnicity does not lead to strife.
