The European Union pressures for macroeconomic convergence and the various groups that are backing radical economic and political agendas are the reasons behind the democratic crisis in Central and Eastern Europe after the EU accession.

The Central and East European regions have suffered under communism and dictatorship in the 20th century and are now dreaming of a better future for the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic community through their democratization.
