The politics of fire: Spanish forest policy and ritual resistance in Galicia, Spain
Article Abstract:
The forest fire problem in Galicia, Spain, a region prone to anthropogenic forest fires in the European continent, is analyzed. Moreover, it is argued that most anthropogenic forest fires in Galicia should be understood as rituals of political resistance by the Galician peasantry against the Spanish state's forceful appropriation of the Galician peasant commons for its ambitious reforestation policy.

The potential benefits are usually attributed to a system of tradable water rights where such a legal institution is implemented in few countries. The introduction of a water market in Chile has created an obvious incentive to violate the water rights of underprivileged users.
