The quality of Democracy: an overview
Article Abstract:
As democracy has spread to a majority of the world's states over the past three decades scholars, politicians, activists, and aid administration have gone from asking why transitions happen and what are these new regimes like. A particular dimension of the quality of democracy such as freedom, the rule of law, vertical accountability, responsiveness, and equality are discussed where some of the ways in which the different elements of democracy not only overlap, but also depend upon one another, forming a system in which improvement along one dimensions can have beneficial effects along other.

Addressing Inequality
Article Abstract:
Equality points to one of the critical dimensions along which the quality of democracy varies. If the effects of social and economic inequality are not substantially contained, political equality will be extremely limited.
