Transracial adoption
Article Abstract:
Policies covering the adoption of black children are torn between same-race and transracial policies. The National Assn of Black Social Workers denounced transracial adoption because it represented a form of racial and cultural genocide. Advocates of transracial adoptions claim that there are more adoptive black children than there are adoptive black parents. However, the Institute for Black Parenting insist that there are many Afro-American families who will participate in adoption programs given the right information. Ultimately, the goal of adoption should be the preservation of the family unit and the welfare of the child.

Thousands of children are waiting
Article Abstract:
The National Adoption Center based in Philadelphia is a non-profit organization which seeks to improve the opportunities for adoptive children of different races. The agency is planning to a launch a campaign to advise potential adoptive parents that there are many children waiting to be taken in by adoptive families. It is estimated that more than 50,000 Afro-American children will spend their childhood in foster homes, many of whom will never even be adopted. The rising incidence of poverty and substance abuse have contributed to the rise in the number of adoptive children.

Adoption agencies: can they service African-Americans?
Article Abstract:
Black adoption agencies have been hindered from offering their services to potential adoptive parents because of lack of funds for advertising andprocessing families. These agencies used to receive federal funding during the term of Pres Lyndon Johnson, but current funding have to be sourced from private foundations and other government agencies. The Detroit agency called Homes for Black Children has been considered as one of the model agencies because it has proven that Black adoptive parents can be found for Black children.
