Article Abstract:
The maritime borders of Australia and Indonesia run alongside one another, but there is little political, military and cultural contact between the two nations, with mutual suspicion more common than mutual cooperation. Parliamentarians in both countries are being urged to overcome old hostilities and agree to the new Australia-Indonesia Agreement on the Framework for Security Co-operation in 2006, but citizens still have many mutual misgivings.

Article Abstract:
The indigenous people of West Papua are fighting for their independence from Indonesia. The island was taken over by Indonesia in 1975, and resistance groups have been fighting for independence ever since. The author suggests that Indonesia may retain West Papua if it is willing to give the indigenous natives more autonomy.
