U.S. moving toward implementation of 1985 Sino-U.S. nuclear accord
Article Abstract:
The US government may implement the 1985 Sino-US nuclear agreement, despite reports on China's alleged nuclear assistance to countries such as Iran and Pakistan. The implementation of the accord will allow the US involvement in the Chinese nuclear energy projects. The US expects China to improve its export control regime and exhibit a consistent non-proliferation behavior pattern. In May 1996, China had assured the US of its willingness to effectively implement its non-proliferation policy. The US officials are convinced of China's intention to comply with this commitment.

Clinton steps up effort to enact 1985 Sino-U.S. nuclear agreement
Article Abstract:
US and Chinese governments have increased efforts to implement the 1985 Sino-US nuclear co-operation agreement. US administrations have never been sufficiently satisfied that China is not assisting other nations to acquire nuclear weapons to activate the agreement. Activation would, potentially, be very lucrative for the US nuclear industry. The Chinese government has tried, during mid-1997, to address US concerns on issues including China's policy on export control and its nuclear links with Pakistan and Iran.

Following summit, Clinton looks to activate Sino-U.S. nuclear accord
Article Abstract:
Pres Bill Clinton announced the activation of the 1985 Sino-US nuclear cooperation agreement during his summit meeting with Chinese Pres Jiang Zemin in Oct 29, 1997. Having found improvements in China's non-proliferation record, specifically its refusal to engage in any nuclear trade to Iran, prompted Clinton to start US' bilateral nuclear accord with China. Thus, the Chinese nuclear market should expect billions of dollars of investments from American firms.
