U.S. signs new agreements expanding 'Nunn-Lugar' support
Article Abstract:
US Dept. of Defense Sec. William Perry signed several agreements in support of the 'Nunn-Lugar' program during his visit to Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia between Mar. and Apr., 1995. Perry signed an amendment to the program promising to increase US assistance to the Ukraine for the elimination of strategic offensive arms from $185 million to $205 million. He also signed a similar amendment with Russia, increasing US assistance by $20 million. Perry's other significant achievements during his visit were discussed.

Nazarbayev goes to Washington
Article Abstract:
Kazakhstan Pres Nursultan Nazarbayev went on a state visit to the US where he conferred with Pres Bush regarding the provisions of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The talks between Bush and Nazarbayev resulted in an agreement which facilitated the signing of the START protocol in Lisbon, Portugal. Prior to the talks, US officials were concerned about Nazarbayev's announcements regarding nuclear weapons in Kazakhstan. The meeting resolved those concerns.

Aspin continues U.S. effort to denuclearize Ukraine
Article Abstract:
Les Aspin, US Secretary of Defense, has visited Kiev with offers of increased military links and cooperation between Ukraine and the US, to help persuade Ukraine to give up its nuclear weapons. Proposals include the setting up of bilaterial working groups and removing warheads from Ukraine bases and placing them in storage, which would be internationally monitored.
