Is blaxploitation surging back?
Article Abstract:
The resurgence of black films demonstrates the audience's appreciation for these movies and the viability of such film projects. However, today's black films differ from those made in the 1970s in terms of style, treatment and theme. That decade, known as 'Blaxploitation,' produced movies with violent scenes, shallow characterization and mighty black heroes who fought against white drug lords and pimps. Today's black movies are better produced and more realistic, with the romantic comedy as the popular storyline. They also include underlying profound messages even in the tritest story.

Women in politics
Article Abstract:
Afro-American women have gained more ground in US politics. Their active participation in the 1992 presidential election has rekindled their interest inpolitical issues. Three Afro-American women have been appointed to Congress in November. They all have similar goals: to improve the quality of life of Afro-Americans. The demands of their jobs make it impossible for them to spend more time with their families. They are committed to serve the people they represent and work hard to eradicate the basic social ills.
